The Final Four Rounds of the 2011 Fantasy Baseball Mock Draft

At long last, we’ve reached the end of the mock. To prevent taking someone like Jason Giambi at the end of your draft because you don’t recognize anyone else, jot a few of these names down.
I’ll list the final rosters for each club after the final round. Feel free to make comments on the final rosters. I’ll post my own analysis of each team (as well as commentary on injury issues that have cropped up for stars like Chase Utley) by Friday, March 25th (the weekend that most leagues are drafting).

22-253 = Ben Francisco, LF-RF, Phillies – If he doesn’t thrive as the starting right fielder for the Phillies the first month of the season, he can kiss his major league career goodbye.

22-254 = Jeremy Guthrie, SP, Orioles – Who had the 5th best WHIP in the American League last year? This guy. Don’t expect it to happen again, but thought it was interesting to note.

22-255 = Denard Span, CF, Twins – Span seems like a guy who should steal 40 bases for you, but for whatever reason only grabs 25.

22-256 = Daniel Bard, RP, Red Sox – The heir apparent to Jonathan Papelbon.

22-257 = Travis Snider, LF-RF, Blue Jays – Along with Yunel Escobar, another candidate to continue Toronto’s trend of producing a random 30+ home run hitter.

22-258 = Jonathan Niese, SP, Mets – In retrospect, this pick was two rounds two early, which is sad to say for a guy that was taken in the 22nd round.

22-259 = Luke Gregerson, RP, Padres – If Heath Bell gets traded during the season, this guy will soak up the save opportunities in San Diego.

22-260 = Adam LaRoche, 1B, Nationals – Strikeouts out a bunch, but 25 home runs and 90 RBIs aren’t out of the question hitting behind Zimmerman and Werth.

22-261 = Chris Young, SP, Mets – Young was solid in ’06 and ’07 before shoulder injuries derailed his career.

22-262 = Placido Polanco, 2B-3B, Phillies – Polanco left a spring training game today due to a hyper-extended elbow, but don’t let that stop you from adding him as one of your fantasy back-ups.

22-263 = Wade Davis, SP, Rays – Davis posted a 3.28 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in the second half of last season.

22-264 = Kurt Suzuki, C, Athletics – Suzuki was a disappointment in 2010, but still has potential to give you 20 homers and 15 steals from the catcher position.

23-265 = Erik Bedard, SP, Mariners – Bedard is always hurt, but this is the perfect spot to take a gamble on a pitcher who can deliver top-10 stats when he pitches.

23-266 = Chase Headley, 3B, Padres – His power is hurt by Petco Park, but Headly still has 20-15 potential.

23-267 = Fausto Carmona, SP, Indians – He doesn’t get a ton of strikeouts, but Carmona keeps the ball on the ground enough to limit damage. Bump him up a round or two in leagues that count double plays.

23-268 = Mike Pelfrey, SP, Mets – Only use him when he has a favorable match-up. It can be bad news bears when he faces a top-10 offense.

23-269 = Brett Cecil, SP, Blue Jays – Only 24, Cecil has a shot to improve on his 4.22 ERA from 2010.

23-270 = Barry Enright, SP, Diamondbacks – If Enright is less fortunate on balls in play, he’ll end up with an ERA closer to 5.

23-271 = Dexter Fowler, CF, Rockies – The last player off the board with a chance at 40 steals and 100 runs scored. You could take him in the 16th round and I wouldn’t complain.

23-272 = James McDonald, SP, Pirates – Consistency might be an issue, but McDonald is capable of giving you a strikeout per inning.

23-273 = Asdrubal Cabrera, SS, Indians – 2010 was ruined by a forearm injury, but Cabrera is capable of bouncing back with double digit homers and steals.

23-274 = Jake Westbrook, SP, Cardinals – This pick is only worthwhile if Westbrook can win you 16 games.

23-275 = Alex Gonzalez, SS, Braves – I don’t endorse this selection at all, but he’s going around the 205th pick in ESPN leagues.

23-276 = Logan Morrison, LF, Marlins – He doesn’t run much or hit homers, but he has a knack for getting on base. He’s like a poor man’s Wade Boggs.

24-277 = Bud Norris, SP, Astros – Notable because he is Chuck Norris’ nephew. Alright, I’ll admit, I made that up, but wouldn’t that be cool?

24-278 = Mike Moustakas, 3B, Royals – He’ll be called up from the minors in mid-May or early June, and he will produce when he gets to the big leagues. Think of Evan Longoria circa 2008 like production.

24-279 = Evan Meek, RP, Pirates – I don’t know how Meek dropped this far. Has a shot at ending up with the closing gig in Pittsburgh.

24-280 = Brandon Webb, SP, Rangers – He will never regain the form he had during the glory days in Arizona, but this is a good spot to take a gamble on him.

24-281 = Desmond Jennings, OF, Rays – His path to the majors was blocked by the acquisitions of Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon, but all it takes is one of those veterans pulling a hamstring for Jennings to make an impact. Draft him and stash him.

24-282 = Jordan Walden, RP, Angels – When the time bomb that is Fernando Rodney eventually blows up, Walden has the inside track on assuming the 9th inning role.

24-283 = Magglio Ordonez, RF, Tigers – Had 12 home runs and a .302 batting average before getting hurt just after the mid-way point last year.

24-284 = Joel Piniero, SP, Angels – I don’t trust him.

24-285 = Dustin Ackley, LF, Mariners – Another draft and stash guy who will be second base eligible.

24-286 = Matt Capps, RP, Twins – If Nathan has arm trouble, Capps is next in line for saves.

24-287 = Sean Rodriguez, 2B-OF, Rays – Won’t hit for average, but can give you 15 homers and steals.

24-288 = Michael Pineda, SP, Mariners – Pineda looks to be the future co-ace along with Felix Hernandez. He could pitch for Seattle by June 1st.

25-289 = J.D. Drew, RF, Red Sox – Neither sexy nor likeable, Drew is a dependable source of 20 home runs.

25-290 = Mike Minor, SP, Braves – Even if he doesn’t open the year on the major league club, he’s worthy of being stashed on a fantasy roster.

25-291 = Michael Brantley, LF-CF, Indians – Has the inside track on the starting left field gig for Cleveland. Don’t be surprised if he gives you 30 steals.

25-292 = Aaron Harang, SP, Padres – If Harang doesn’t have a solid year this season, write him off for the rest of his career.

25-293 = Dan Johnson, 1B-3B, Rays – Johnson could be a huge sleeper if he could get his batting average over .250.

25-294 = Chris Capuano, SP-RP, Mets – A fellow blogger from Milwaukee was ranting on Twitter about how Capuano (who pitched for Milwaukee) was crackers. That has no relevance to anything, but I have nothing relevant to say about Chris Capuano.

25-295 = Reid Brignac, 2B-SS, Rays – See Rodriguez, Sean.

25-296 = R.A. Dickey, SP, Mets – He’s a knuckleballer, so if you own him, be prepared for a few clunkers every now and then.

25-297 = Domonic Brown, RF, Phillies – Brown will mist the first few weeks of the season due to injury. He loses all value in non-keeper leagues if Ben Francisco thrives.

25-298 = Alex Gordon, 3B-LF, Royals – The 25th round is the perfect spot to grab a guy who has never lived up to expectations, and probably only has one more shot to do it with Kansas City.

25-299 = Vicente Padilla, SP, Dodgers – A decent guy to have at the end of your fantasy rotation. Expect an ERA around 4.

25-300 = Justin Duchscherer, SP, Orioles – This guy has had no luck the last three years. I wouldn’t be surprised if his arm snapped off while throwing a changeup or something.
