10 Awesome Things That Happened This Weekend (12/13-12/15)

10. Georges St. Pierre Takes a Break
St. Pierre is reportedly stepping away in an effort to get out of the spotlight. He’ll be missed.

9. Mack Brown Steps Down
Brown will always have the 2005-06 National Championship to hang his hat on, even if his last four years in Austin were mediocre at best.

8. Seahawks Dominate Giants
There was nothing particularly noteworthy about this game, but at least the Giants are eliminated from postseason contention. That’s the only thing Cowboys and Patriots fans can agree on.

7. Redskins Go For Two, Lose
The result wasn’t there, but in a vacuum the decision to go for two after a long touchdown drive isn’t a terrible one. Kudos to the Redskins for making a bold choice in the middle of a disastrous season.

6. North Carolina Defends Home Court Against Kentucky
North Carolina has been a tricky team to forecast so far, but wins over Michigan State, Louisville, and now Kentucky are very impressive.

5. Jameis Winston Takes Home the Heisman Trophy
I’m a little surprised that Winston dominated the field so much in spite of his rape charge that was dropped, but there really wasn’t another viable candidate.

4. Rams “Stun” Saints
We put “stun” in quotations because No Credentials correctly predicted how this game would play out during our picks column. That doesn’t happen often, so we’ll pat ourselves on the back.

3. Jamaal Charles Scores 5 TDs
Congratulations to any one who had the pleasure in starting him in the semi-finals of fantasy football leagues this week.

2. Dolphins Knock Off Patriots
Miami took another step towards the sixth seed in the AFC, and New England squandered an oppurtunity to take control of the top spot in the conference. At least Cincinnati got beat up by Pittsburgh so the Pats still have a grip on the two spot.

1. Cowboys Throw Themselves Into Oblivion, Blow 23-Point Lead Against Packers
I was ready to write an extended rant about how Tony Romo never should’ve been in position to throw the two interceptions he did late in yesterday’s epic choke, but Grantland’s Bill Barnwell covered every point I would’ve wanted to make. This is the worst Cowboys defense I’ve ever seen.
