2016 NFL Wildcard Sunday Picks

            Before we get to our Sunday picks, some thoughts on the incredibly bizarre finish between the Steelers and Bengals.

-         Man that was fucked.
-         Never do I recall a team committing 30 yards worth of personal foul penalties to give an opponent a chip shot field goal to win a game.
-         Anyone remember the old introductions to Madden in the late-90s that would show highlight reels of monster brain scrambling hits? Vontaze Burfict’s near-decapitation of Antonio Brown would’ve made the cut.
-         Cincinnati managed to surrender a game-winning drive to a quarterback who may or may not have a broken arm or something.
-         The ending was so ridiculous that I almost forgot about Martavius Bryant’s touchdown catch, which was insane.
-         We’re not they type for a knee-jerk reaction, but if I’m running the Bengals, I would seriously question whether or not Marvin Lewis should return for next season. A complete lack of discipline was ultimately what did the Bengals in (some would argue that it was Jeremy Hill’s fumble, but the Steelers still had to march half a football field to have a decent field goal attempt at the time of the recovery). Coaches instill discipline. Lewis had no control over his team, and it cost him his first playoff victory as a Head Coach.

Thankfully, the Bengals weren’t inept enough to not cover the +3 point spread, so we went undefeated with our Saturday picks. Here’s a look at the Sunday slate.

Seahawks (-5) over VIKINGS

            It was a nice story for the Vikings to capture their first division title in six years, but the run ends against a vastly superior Seahawks squad. In brutal weather, the Vikings will be lucky to rack up 150 total yards of offense.

Packers (+1) over WASHINGTON

            Green Bay has it’s flaws, but their strengths are perfectly suited to take advantage of Washington’s flaws. Aaron Rodgers will be able to pick apart a weak secondary that even the likes of Davante Adams can actually get open against, and Kirk Cousins will struggle against the seventh best pass defense in THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE.

2016 NFL Wildcard Saturday Picks

            It’s been a busy few months here at No Credentials. In between moving our headquarters, we were staying at a place with limited internet access (translation: we were bouncing off of a local sub shop’s wi-fi). Now fully situated, No Credentials is back to offer horrendous football picks. We’ll start with the two Saturday games.

Chiefs (-3.5) over TEXANS

            In a game where the winner earns the right to possibly beat the shit out of Tom Brady in the Divisional Round, we’ll roll with Alex Smith over Brian Hoyer.

BENGALS (+3) over Steelers

            Rumor has it Pittsburgh might lure Fast Willie Parker out of retirement to start at running back Saturday night. Okay, I made that up, but you get the idea. The set up here is eerily similar to last year when Pittsburgh had to play a Wildcard Game a week after Le’Veon Bell was seriously injured in Week 17. We’ll take the points.

2015 Week 5 NFL Picks

            Didn’t have time to type up a full write-up, so here are some quick picks. We’ll be back next week with a more detailed explanation of our mediocre predictions.

BUCCANEERS (-2) over Jaguars
Bills (-1) over TITANS
RAVENS (-6.5) over Browns
FALCONS (-7) over Washington
CHIEFS (-9) over Bears
Saints (+6) over EAGLES
Rams (+9) over PACKERS
Seahawks (+3) over BENGALS
Cardinals (-3.5) over LIONS

Broncos (-4.5) over RAIDERS
GIANTS (-7) over 49ers
CHARGERS (-3.5) over Steelers

2015 NFL Week 2 Picks

Texans (+3) over PANTHERS

            In what will amount to a reenactment of football in the 1930s, we’ll take the points.

SAINTS (-10) over Buccaneers

            We don’t feel warm and fuzzy about backing the Saints as double-digit favorites, but it would be even scarier to back the Bucs under any circumstances after last week’s debacle.

STEELERS (-7) over 49ers

            At first glance, this line is too high, but you have to dig deeper to make peace with it. Pittsburgh will have had 10 days off and gets to play at home. San Francisco played in a game that started at 10:15 eastern time Monday night, and then has to travel cross-country to play at 1pm (10am Pacific, for those of you not paying attention) Sunday.

VIKINGS (-2) over Lions

            Minnesota will reestablish themselves as wildcard contenders in their home opener.

Patriots (-1) over BILLS

            Buffalo will dominate for three quarters before finding a way to blow it and lose by 3.

BEARS (+2) over Cardinals

            We predicted the Cardinals would go 6-10. No Credentials will bank on that prediction for one more week and take the points.

BROWNS (+2) over Titans

            Two words…Johnny Fucking Football. Also, people are overreacting after Tennessee’s win over Tampa Bay.

Chargers (+3.5) over BENGALS

            I don’t know if San Diego wins, but the extra half point on this line is disrespectful to Philip Rivers.

REDSKINS (+3.5) over Rams

            St. Louis has a history of playing down to it’s competition, and Washington wasn’t horrendous in Week 1.

Falcons (+2) over GIANTS

            So a week after an epic choke job (even Tony Romo said, “Man the Giants fucked up the end of that game”), New York is favored against a decent Falcons squad?

Ravens (-7) over RAIDERS

            In McGloin we do not trust.

Dolphins (-6) over JAGUARS

            Miami took care of business on the road last week against an inferior opponent, and we think they do it again in Jacksonville.

Cowboys (+5.5) over EAGLES

            If Romo pulls this one out, we can start up some MVP chatter.

PACKERS (-3.5) over Seahawks

            On one hand, this line should be PACKERS (-3). On the other, I think Green Bay wins. So…ya.

COLTS (-7) over Jets

            Indy got kicked in the teeth last week, but they will bounce back at home.

Week 1 = 8-7-1

Thursday = 0-1 (second straight bullshit cover on Thursday Night Football)

Spread Picks By Team

            In a new weekly installment, each week I’ll update my record of picking games for each team. For example, I picked the Colts to cover in Buffalo. They got annihilated, so I lost. Conversely, I picked the Seahawks to lose at St. Louis. That did happen, so my pick is a win. You get the idea.

Dolphins = 1-0

Jets = 1-0

Browns = 1-0

Texans = 1-0

Chargers = 1-0

Eagles = 1-0

Redskins = 1-0

Packers = 1-0

Vikings = 1-0

Lions = 1-0

Bears = 1-0

Falcons = 1-0

Seahawks = 1-0

Rams = 1-0

49ers = 1-0

Chiefs = 1-1

Patriots = 0-0-1

Steelers = 0-0-1

Bills = 0-1

Ravens = 0-1

Bengals = 0-1

Colts = 0-1

Jaguars = 0-1

Titans = 0-1

Raiders = 0-1

Cowboys = 0-1

Giants = 0-1

Saints = 0-1

Buccaneers = 0-1

Panthers = 0-1

Cardinals = 0-1
Broncos = 0-2

NFL Wildcard Picks

            No Credentials benched it self from regular season picks, but that doesn’t mean we couldn’t come back to offer bad advice for the playoffs.

PANTHERS (-6.5) over Cardinals

            Arizona might be fielding the worst starting offense in playoff history.

Carolina 24, Arizona 3

Ravens (+3.5) over STEELERS

            We think Pittsburgh is better, but the wacky weather that should be occurring during the game works in Baltimore’s favor. Well, in terms of covering the spread.

Pittsburgh 13, Baltimore 10

COLTS (-4) over Bengals

            The Red Rifle needs to deliver in at least one playoff game before we’d ever endorse wagering on him. A hobbled A.J. Green won’t make things any easier.

Indianapolis 31, Cincinnati 13

COWBOYS (-7) over Lions

            At first glance this line is at least three points too high, but when you factor in the weak schedule Detroit faced on it’s way to the postseason, it makes sense.

Dallas 28, Detroit 17

Week 7 NFL Picks

            For a second straight week, we just barely squeaked over .500, which means that we still have to offer up pitiful football picks. We’re already down thanks to the stupid Patriots (can’t cover against Geno Smith guys, really?), so this week should be the swan song. Fortunately for the general public, we’re posting these less than a hour before kickoff to ensure as little damage happens to the gambling community.

Bengals (+3.5) over COLTS
REDSKINS (-6) over Titans
BEARS (-3.5) over Dolphins
JAGUARS (+6) over Browns
RAMS (+7) over Seahawks
Panthers (+6.5) over PACKERS
RAVENS (-6.5) over Falcons
BILLS (-5.5) over Vikings
LIONS (-2.5) over Saints
CHARGERS (-4) over Chiefs
Giants (-6.5) over COWBOYS
Cardinals (-4) over RAIDERS
49ers (+7) over BRONCOS
STEELERS (-3) over Texans

Week 6 = 8-7
Thursday = 0-1
Season = 44-55

Week 3 NFL Picks

            Last week, our picks were terrible. Like, worse than the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After posting our worst week of prognostication in the history of this blog, we are happy to report that we started Week 3 by being on the right side of the Falcons 56-14 rout Thursday night.
            As we’ve done in the past after a bad week, we aren’t offering up any analysis with our picks, as we don’t want to give anyone the impression that we know what we are talking about. We’re also suspending our “Stock Up, Stock Down” segment, as all three teams we highlighted as being bullish on lost in Week 2. Again, this is all for America’s safety.

Chargers (+2.5) over BILLS

RAMS (+2) over Cowboys

EAGLES (-6) over Redskins

Texans (-1) over GIANTS

SAINTS (-10.5) over Vikings

BENGALS (-7) over Titans

BROWNS (+1.5) over Ravens

Packers (+2.5) over LIONS

Colts (-7) over JAGUARS

PATRIOTS (-14.5) over Raiders

CARDINALS (+3) over 49ers

SEAHAWKS (-4.5) over Broncos

DOLPHINS (-4) over Chiefs

PANTHERS (-3.5) over Steelers

Bears (+2.5) over JETS

Week 2 = 2-14 (L)
Thursday = 1-0
Season = 13-20

10 Awesome Things That Happened This Weekend (9/5-9/7)

10. Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic Both Go Down in Semi-Finals of US Open
            Upsets are cool, until the two guys that pulled off the upsets face off in a Final no one cares about.

9. Brad Keselowski Secures Top Seed in The Chase
            A race billed as a last chance, no holds barred attempt to make the playoffs turned into a snooze-fest thanks to a dominant run by the 2012 champion.

8. Home Loss For Ohio State Caps Miserable Day For Big 10
            Following Michigan getting shut out at Notre Dame and Michigan State surrendering 28 unanswered points at Oregon, the Buckeyes looking mediocre at home was the last thing the conference needed.

7. Miami Dominates New England After Halftime, Wins 33-20
            If it wasn’t for some sloppy ball handling in the first half, the Dolphins could’ve won this game by four touchdowns.

6. Nelson Cruz Goes Bonkers Against Tampa Bay
            After missing the end of the 2013 season due to a steroid suspension, Cruz used the extra time off to figure out new ways to use performance-enhancing drugs without getting caught how to naturally improve at his craft.

5. Andrew Luck Leads Improbable Back Door Cover Against Broncos
            Indianapolis should’ve been a lot closer in this game, as they left at least 11 points on the table in the second half. There is a chance that they are better than we think.

4. Cincinnati Weathers Late Push From Ravens, Wins 23-16
            Steve Smith hit the way-back button with his go ahead touchdown, but then was quickly one-upped by superstar A.J. Green. This was a huge win for the Bengals, as it should silence some critics of The Red Rifle.

3. Steelers Nearly Implode, Survive Late Scare Against Cleveland
            After falling behind 27-3, at least Cleveland can take heart in the fact that they covered the point spread.

2. Buffalo Bills Pull Off a Shocking Overtime Win in Chicago
            There’s always one game a year in our Week 1 picks column that we don’t follow our preseason predictions closely enough and end up missing. At least it only happened once this year.

1. Matt Ryan Carries Falcons Past New Orleans
            For our money, Matt Ryan was by far the most impressive player in THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE on Sunday. In other words, he was the opposite of Tony Romo.

2014 AFC North Preview

4. Pittsburgh Steelers

2013 Record = 8-8, Second in AFC North, Missed Playoffs
2014 Schedule = Browns, @ Ravens, @ Panthers, Buccaneers, @ Jaguars, @ Browns, Texans, Colts, Ravens, @ Jets, @ Titans, BYE, Saints, @ Bengals, @ Falcons, Chiefs, Bengals

Blue Chippers = None

High Quality Players = QB Ben Roethlisberger, WR Antonio Brown, SS Troy Polamalu
Solid Contributors = WR Lance Moore, LG Ramon Foster, C Maurkice Pouncey, RG David DeCastro, DE Cameron Heyward, MLB Lawrence Timmons, OLB Jason Worilds
Impact Rookies = MLB Ryan Shazier (1-15, Ohio State), DE Stephon Tuitt (2-46, Notre Dame)

Good News = Pittsburgh has solidified the middle of it’s offensive line.
Bad News = Ike Taylor is beyond washed up.

Outlook = The Steelers are desperately in need of a full roster reboot, but the franchise is still committed to veterans who delivered two Super Bowl titles. With all that has been accomplished by Ben Roethlisberger and Troy Polamalu, you can’t completely fault them. Big Ben was still hit a lot in 2013 (mostly due to miserable play from his offensive tackles), but at least there was some semblance of pass protection for him. A greater commitment to the running game would go a long way in helping, as better balance would keep Roethlisberger upright. Le’Veon Bell will be given the first crack at full-time duty, but free agent acquisition LeGarrette Blount was brought in to push him. Antonio Brown had a massive breakout campaign, and is set up once again for another elite fantasy season. Lance Moore was brought in to fill the chain moving void left by Emmanuel Sanders, and Markus Wheaton will be given every opportunity in his sophomore season to make an impact. A full season from Heath Miller would go a long way in solidifying the Steelers passing game.
            Defensively is where Pittsburgh’s real problems are, as there defense is filled with either players past their primes or youngsters that haven’t reached their potential yet. Troy Polamalu caused a lot of havoc last year with 5 forced fumbles, but his ball-playing skills are virtually non-existent. Pittsburgh treats Ike Taylor like he’s still as shut-down corner, which is either an extreme case of denial or desperation. Jason Worilds and Cameron Heyward both need to raise their games to return the Steelers defense to elite status.

Prediction = This is the year the Steelers wheels really fall off. Look for a full rebuild to begin in 2015. 4-12

3. Cleveland Browns

2013 Record = 4-12, Last in AFC North, Missed Playoffs
2014 Schedule = @ Steelers, Saints, Ravens, BYE, @ Titans, Steelers, @ Jaguars, Raiders, Buccaneers, @ Bengals, Texans, @ Falcons, @ Bills, Colts, Bengals, @ Panthers, @ Ravens

Blue Chippers = WR Josh Gordon (sigh), LT Joe Thomas
High Quality Players = C Alex Mack, MLB Karlos Dansby, CB Joe Haden, SS Donte Whitner
Solid Contributors = TE Jordan Cameron, OLB Jabaal Sheard
Impact Rookies = CB Justin Gilbert (1-8, Oklahoma State), QB Johnny Fucking Football (1-22, Texas A&M), RG Joel Bitonio (2-35, Nevada)

Good News = No other team crushed the draft this year like the Cleveland Browns.
Bad News = Josh Gordon really likes marijuana.

Outlook = Since returning to the NFL in 1999, there hasn’t been a more consistently dysfunctional franchise than the Cleveland Browns (remember the Raiders actually won the AFC in 2002). 2014 is yet another season where the team features a new general manager (no love for Mike Lombardi, even after the Trent Richardson heist), a new Head Coach, and a new Week 1 quarterback. We’d be much higher (pun intended!) on Cleveland’s chances at sleeper status if it wasn’t for Josh Gordon. Gordon tested positive for marijuana, and since he’s a repeat offender, he could miss the entire season (it’s too bad he didn’t just beat the shit out of his fiancée like Ray Rice did, that would’ve only cost him two games. Good work Roger Goodell). Gordon was the MVP of all three of my fantasy teams last year, so No Credentials will dearly miss him. Without Gordon, Cleveland’s wide receivers are a collection of misfit toys. Earl Bennett is a decent fourth receiver, and I think Miles Austin and Nate Burleson already tore their hamstrings. Jordan Cameron will be the most reliable receiver from the tight end position, and it’s not unrealistic for him to be the second most valuable tight end in fantasy behind Jimmy Graham, regardless of which quarterback plays. Brian Hoyer was just named the starter today, but whether due to injury or poor performance, we expect to see Johnny Manziel by Week 10.
            Cleveland was actually a top-10 defensive unit last year, and with the addition of Justin Gilbert and Donte Whitner to the secondary, should continue to be the strength of the team. The secondary has a chance to be among the five best in THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE. The Browns only face one top-10 offense from 2013 this season, so there is a chance they can steal some low scoring ball games.

Prediction = Barring a miracle Josh Gordon ruling that gets him on the field in October, Cleveland’s offense is going to be a problem, but at least a favorable schedule gives them a chance to sniff .500. 6-10

2. Baltimore Ravens

2013 Record = 8-8, Third in AFC North, Missed Playoffs
2014 Schedule = Bengals, Steelers, @ Browns, Panthers, @ Colts, @ Buccaneers, Falcons, @ Bengals, @ Steelers, Titans, BYE, @ Saints, Chargers, @ Dolphins, Jaguars, @ Texans, Browns

Blue Chippers = None
High Quality Players = RG Marshal Yanda, OLB Elvis Dumervil, CB Lardarius Webb
Solid Contributors = WR Torrey Smith, WR Steve Smith, TE Dennis Pitta, LT Eugene Monroe, DE Terrell Suggs, DT Haloti Ngata
Impact Rookies = MLB C.J. Mosley (1-17, Alabama), DT Timmy Jernigan (2-48, Florida State), FS Terrance Brooks (3-79, Florida State)

Good News = The offensive line can’t play any worse than they did last year.
Bad News = How much more money do they owe Joe Flacco again?

Outlook = It’s hard to believe that a year ago at this team the Ravens were the defending Super Bowl champions after their mediocre 2013 campaign. The offense was abysmal, finishing the year as the fourth worst unit in football. Most of those troubles can be attributed to dreadful offensive line play. Joe Flacco was under constant duress, and whomever he handed the ball off too had a hard time just getting 3 yards per carry. The hiring of Gary Kubiak as offensive coordinator should go along way in addressing those issues, as his zone-blocking scheme was effective in both Denver and Houston for many years. Eugene Monroe also gets a full off-season in the Ravens system after being acquired midseason last year from Jacksonville. Ray Rice will miss the first two games due to suspension, so Bernard Pierce will have a chance to seize a sizable workload. Pierce could be a better fit for Kubiak’s blocking schemes. Torrey Smith averaged over 17 yards per catch last year, and with better pass protection could see an up tick in usage. Steve Smith was brought in for the other starting spot, and Baltimore is looking for the same value out of him that they got from Anquan Boldin during their Super Bowl run. Dennis Pitta is Joe Flacco’s security blanket, and a full season from him would do wonders on third down.
            Even with younger players replacing veterans from the Super Bowl team and a sputtering offense, the defense nearly cracked the top-10 in total yards allowed. For the Ravens to return to the level of play from their hey-day, they will need to generate more negative plays. C.J. Mosley looks like the next in a long line of great Baltimore linebackers. Jimmy Smith was a first round pick in 2011, and this might be his last chance to play to his potential before Baltimore looks for another option at cornerback. Terrance Brooks was a steal in the third round, and projects to be an immediate starter.

Prediction = The offense will improve enough to keep the defense off the field more, and return the Ravens to playoff contention. 9-7

1. Cincinnati Bengals

2013 Record = 11-5, AFC North Champions, Lost AFC Wildcard Game
2014 Schedule = @ Ravens, Falcons, Titans, BYE, @ Patriots, Panthers, @ Colts, Ravens, Jaguars, Browns, @ Saints, @ Texans, @ Buccaneers, Steelers, @ Browns, Broncos, @ Steelers

Blue Chippers = LT Andrew Whitworth, DT Geno Atkins
High Quality Players = WR A.J. Green, OLB Vontaze Burfict
Solid Contributors = HB Giovanni Bernard, WR Marvin Jones, RG Kevin Zeitler, RT Andre Smith, DE Carlos Dunlap, CB Leon Hall, CB Adam Jones, FS Reggie Nelson
Impact Rookies = CB Darqueze Dennard (1-24, Michigan State)

Good News = Giovanni Bernard will be the feature back.
Bad News = Andy Dalton is still slated to be their quarterback if they have to play playoff games.

Outlook = Cincinnati has assembled arguably the deepest all around roster in the NFL, with talent at all the skill positions, a solid  offensive line, and a top-5 defense. Expanded workloads for Giovanni Bernard and Marvin Jones will take some defensive attention away from A.J. Green, and should propel the Bengals to even greater heights. The only question is the red head under center. Andy Dalton has been solid during his first three seasons during the regular season. He’s won 30 games in his pro career, and last year tossed a career high 33 touchdowns. Unfortunately, he’s been so atrocious in his three career playoff games, even Tony Romo said, “Man this guy sucks in January” (EDITORS NOTE: Romo didn’t actually say that, but he should’ve). This year boils down to whether or not Dalton delivers the goods in the playoffs. The roster is vastly superior to the rest of the AFC North, so a division title is virtually assured. Dalton only needs to win one elimination game to quiet critics of the mammoth extension he inked this season.

Prediction = We’re guessing the Bengals win 11 games again before Dalton shits his pants again in the playoffs. Is it too early to wager on this? 11-5

Week 15 NFL Picks

3-10 Washington Redskins @ 3-10 Atlanta Falcons (-7)
            There are very few football teams on Earth that the Falcons should be favored by a touchdown against. Washington is one of them.

FALCONS (-7) over Redskins

9-4 San Francisco 49ers (-6) @ 4-9 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
            Coming off their hard fought division win over Seattle, San Francisco will have a hard time winning by more than a field goal in Tampa.

BUCCANEERS (+6) over 49ers

11-2 Seattle Seahawks (-7) @ 5-8 New York Giants
            Playing a pissed off Seaderrall Seahawks team is not an ideal scenario for the sorry Giants.

Seahawks (-7) over GIANTS

7-6 Chicago Bears (-1) @ 4-9 Cleveland Browns
            Jay Cutler’s play will have nothing to do with the Browns winning on Sunday, but that’s what everyone will be talking about Monday.

BROWNS (+1) over Bears

2-11 Houston Texans @ 8-5 Indianapolis Colts (-6)
            Indianapolis isn’t setting the world on fire, but Houston has no incentive to win, and Coach Wade is heavily involved.

COLTS (-6) over Texans

4-9 Buffalo Bills (-1.5) @ 4-9 Jacksonville Jaguars
            Hard to believe we’re saying this, but there’s no way that Buffalo should be favored in this game.

JAGUARS (+1.5) over Bills

10-3 New England Patriots (-1) @ 7-6 Miami Dolphins
            We’ve been preparing to pick Miami in this game all week, but Denver hung a pretty big carrot in front of the Patriots by losing last night.

Patriots (-1) over DOLPHINS

8-5 Philadelphia Eagles (-6) @ 3-9-1 Minnesota Vikings
            Rumor has it that Minnesota might start Chuck Foreman at runningback this week, which would be cool if it was the 1970s.

Eagles (-6) over VIKINGS

6-7 New York Jets @ 9-4 Carolina Panthers
            Carolina will lay the smack down.

PANTHERS (-11.5) over Jets

10-3 Kansas City Chiefs (-6) @ 4-9 Oakland Raiders
            Kansas City also got some added motivation with Denver’s loss to San Diego, as if they win out they’ll have a shot at the division.

Chiefs (-6) over RAIDERS

8-5 Arizona Cardinals (-3) @ 5-8 Tennessee Titans
            Arizona’s defense is one of the more underrated units in THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE.

Cardinals (-3) over TITANS

10-3 New Orleans Saints (-6.5) @ 5-8 St. Louis Rams
            I have visions of Chris Long and Robert Quinn harassing Drew Brees all day before the Saints rally to kick a game-winning field goal.

RAMS (+6.5) over Saints

6-6-1 Green Bay Packers @ 7-6 Dallas Cowboys (-7)
            Dallas used their mulligan game last week. They can’t fall behind by more than a game to the Eagles.

COWBOYS (-7) over Packers

9-4 Cincinnati Bengals (-2.5) @ 5-8 Pittsburgh Steelers
            I wish I could wait on making this pick until after the Patriots game, because if the Pats lose, Cincinnati would be able to put itself in position for the #2 seed in the AFC.

Bengals (-2.5) over STEELERS

7-6 Baltimore Ravens @ 7-6 Detroit Lions (-6)
            Not comfortable laying six points on the back of Jim Schwarz in a coaching battle against John Harbaugh.

Ravens (+6) over LIONS

Last Week = 10-6

Season = 103-96-8
Thursday = 0-1

Thanksgiving NFL Picks

            Normally our Thursday picks get relegated to the No Credentials Facebook page (while you think of it, do me a solid and like the page if youhave a moment), but we have to put in slightly more effort to acknowledge the Thanksgiving slate.

LIONS (-6.5) over Packers

            Detroit was peeking ahead when they put on a sloppy performance against Tampa Bay last week. They’ll feast on Matt Flynn.

COWBOYS (-9.5) over Raiders

            Whether they are facing a rusty Terrelle Pryor or some guy who’s name sounds like it should be a character on an awful NCIS spin-off show, Dallas should be able to deliver it’s first comfortable victory since dominating the Eagles over a month ago. Emphasis on should.

Steelers (+2.5) over RAVENS

            Over the course of the season, Ben Roethlisberger has outplayed Joe Flacco. That’s the difference maker for me.

            Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving everyone.

10 Awesome Things That Happened This Weekend (11/15-11/17)

10. Austin Dillon Wins Nationwide Title
            Sadly, no one other than his grandfather gave a shit about this accomplishment, as Dillon didn’t even win a race this year in a series dominated by Cup regulars.

9. Kobe Returns to Practice
            This development doesn’t mean the Black Mamba will be back on the court in a week, but it’s a great sign that one of the greatest players of the post-Jordan era will be back soon.

8. Georges St. Pierre “Beats” Johny Hendricks
            Rather than use a ton of expletives to describe my disdain for the judges of this fight (EDITORS NOTE: We had money on this fight), we’ll let Dana White do the talking.

7. USC Upsets Stanford
            It’s cool that Lane Kiffin is no longer involved with the USC program, because I feel like I can actually celebrate their successes again.

6. Indiana Pacers Finally Lose a Game
            More vital than that fact was the effectiveness of Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls. The 2011 MVP looked a little sluggish in the early parts of the season, but appears to be hitting his stride.

5. Steelers Show Life, Rally Against Detroit
            Believe it or not, Pittsburgh is only a game out of the sixth seed in the AFC.

4. Denver Dominates Kansas City
            Last night was a prime example of why you really can’t trust Alex Smith if you have aspirations for a Super Bowl run.

3. Chicago Bears Outlast Weather, Baltimore Ravens in Overtime
            It only made sense that a game delayed two hours by the threat of a tornado went into overtime.

2. Saints Capitalize on Late 49ers Miscues, Win 23-20
            A costly roughing the passer penalty (which maybe back in the day would’ve been legal, but not anymore) and a fair catch interference call ultimately ruined what had been an impressive effort by the underdog 49ers.

1. Jimmie Johnson Wins 6th Sprint Cup
            Johnson did everything he had to do to secure a championship that officially opens the quest to equal Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt as the only drivers to ever win seven titles.

Week 9 NFL Picks

            So sad news here at No Credentials…we’re down a prognosticator. Friend of the blog Ethan Hedrick has retired from making picks for the 2013 season (EDITORS NOTE: Actually, he was “distracted” by other events, and neglected to submit them). The good news is he’s alive, and we here at No Credentials are still here to offer up bad football picks.

2-5 Atlanta Falcons @ 4-3 Carolina Panthers (-8)
            This is a game the Panthers need to solidify their wild card contention in the NFC.

PANTHERS (-8) over Falcons

1-6 Minnesota Vikings @ 4-4 Dallas Cowboys (-10.5)
            Dallas has been an every other week sort of team this year. Minnesota is a good club to catch when you’re trying to continue that trend.

COWBOYS (-10.5) over Vikings

6-1 New Orleans Saints (-7) @ 4-4 New York Jets
            The Ryan brothers have cooked up solid defensive game plans for the Saints in the past (that was a big part of the reason Rob Ryan was hired by Sean Payton). I think Rex figures out a way to keep this close.

JETS (+7) over Saints

3-4 Tennessee Titans (-3) @ 3-5 St. Louis Rams
            Improbably, Jake Locker has returned just in time before the Titans fell out of playoff contention.

Titans (-3) over RAMS

8-0 Kansas City Chiefs (-4) @ 3-5 Buffalo Bills
            There won’t be a ton of points here. Think 17-7 or something.

Chiefs (-4) over BILLS

4-3 San Diego Chargers (-1) @ 2-5 Washington Redskins
            San Diego could build itself a solid lead for the last wildcard spot in the AFC with a win and a couple other things happening around the conference.

Chargers (-1) over REDSKINS

3-5 Philadelphia Eagles @ 3-4 Oakland Raiders (-3)
            Nick “Pizza Man” Foles returns, and we predict that the two game funk for Chip Kelly’s offense will come to an end.

Eagles (+3) over RAIDERS

0-7 Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ 7-1 Seattle Seahawks (-16)
            Seattle will win, but it’s hard to cover a 16-point spread when you can’t block anybody.

Buccaneers (+16) over SEAHAWKS

3-4 Baltimore Ravens (-2.5) @ 3-5 Cleveland Browns
            This just feels like a game that the Ravens will figure out by the end of the fourth quarter.

Ravens (-2.5) over BROWNS

2-5 Pittsburgh Steelers @ 6-2 New England Patriots (-7)
            Will bet on Tom Brady’s history of typically dominating the Steelers.

PATRIOTS (-7) over Steelers

5-2 Indianapolis Colts (-3) @ 2-5 Houston Texans
            Andrew Luck and company would be wise to put their foot on the throats of a division opponent.

Colts (-3) over TEXANS

4-3 Chicago Bears @ 5-2 Green Bay Packers (-11)
            At first glance this spread looks really high, but then you have to remember that Chicago’s defense can’t stop anyone.

PACKERS (-11) over Bears

Last Week = 9-4
Season = 60-56-3
Thursday = 0-1 (who gets sacked for a safety in overtime? Redheaded QBs)

Week 8 NFL picks

Once again, Ethan is M.I.A. (which might not be a bad thing, look at his picks last week), so we'll post his picks as soon as we have them.

5-2 San Francisco 49ers vs. 0-7 Jacksonville Jaguars (game in London)
            Not since President George W. Bush set foot on U.K. soil has an American entity more inept than the 2013 Jaguars traveled across the pond.

49ers (-15.5) over Jaguars

4-3 Dallas Cowboys @ 4-3 Detroit Lions
            I’ll openly admit I’m being a homer here, but if there’s anyone that Jason Garrett could actually out-coach, it’s Jim Schwarz.

Cowboys (+3) over LIONS

1-6 New York Giants @ 3-4 Philadelphia Eagles
            Five points feels pretty high for a team that has lost it’s last nine home games in a row.

Giants (+5) over EAGLES

3-4 Cleveland Browns @ 7-0 Kansas City Chiefs
            No team in the league has played a more charmed schedule than the Kansas City Chiefs. A week after drawing the third string quarterback for Houston, the Chiefs get to face Cleveland’s third string quarterback.

CHIEFS (-7.5) over Browns

3-4 Buffalo Bills @ 5-1 New Orleans Saints
            The last time we saw the Saints, they were improbably pissing away a win at Foxborough. I’m guessing they’ll be plenty motivated after the bye, even if Jimmy Graham doesn’t play.

SAINTS (-11.5) over Bills

3-3 Miami Dolphins @ 5-2 New England Patriots
            New England is 0-3 this year against the spread when facing AFC East opponents.

Dolphins (+7) over PATRIOTS

4-3 New York Jets @ 5-2 Cincinnati Bengals
            New York has rotated wins and losses every week of the season so far. Another loss is coming as they face one of the top defensive units in THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE.

BENGALS (-6) over Jets

2-4 Pittsburgh Steelers @ 2-4 Oakland Raiders
            The Steelers have a weird history of losing whenever they travel to Oakland, but it stands to reason that they can’t let any game slip through the cracks the rest of the year. Professional

Steelers (-2.5) over RAIDERS

2-4 Washington Redskins @ 6-1 Denver Broncos
            The Redskins got lit up last week in the second half by Josh McCown. Last time I checked, Peyton Manning is significantly better than Josh McCown. This is a great bounce-back opponent for the Broncos after their first loss of the year.

BRONCOS (-13) over Redskins

2-4 Atlanta Falcons @ 3-4 Arizona Cardinals
            Arizona’s defense is good enough to capitalize on all of the players Atlanta has lost to injury.

CARDINALS (-2) over Falcons

4-2 Green Bay Packers @ 1-5 Minnesota Vikings
            We don’t like to poke fun at head injuries here, but when Josh Freeman was asked about what point in the game last Monday he sustained a concussion, he probably should’ve said pre-game warm-ups.

Packers (-9.5) over VIKINGS

6-1 Seattle Seahawks @ 3-4 St. Louis Rams
            A new gambling rule just created this week…never, EVER, bet on a team that just put out a feeler for Brett Favre.

Seahawks (-12) over RAMS

Week 4 NFL Picks

Week 4 Bye Weeks = Green Bay Packers (1-2), Carolina Panthers (1-2)

Pittsburgh Steelers (0-3) vs. Minnesota Vikings (0-3)
Sunday, 1pm, CBS, O/U 42.5
Game will be played in London
            There isn’t a better way to further promote America’s passion across the pond than shipping two winless teams overseas to play. Ultimately, Pittsburgh’s defense should be enough to get them back in the win column.

Steelers (-3) over Vikings

Baltimore Ravens (2-1) @ Buffalo Bills (1-2)
Sunday, 1pm, CBS, O/U 44
            Buffalo looks like a group that will play much better at home than on the road this season, but I think Baltimore squeaks this one out. Almost thought about picking a push.

Ravens (-3) over BILLS

Cincinnati Bengals (2-1) @ Cleveland Browns (1-2)
Sunday, 1pm, CBS, O/U 42.5
            Cleveland already won one more game than their general manager was hoping they would win this season. I’m expecting a major beat down.

Bengals (-4.5) over BROWNS

Indianapolis Colts (2-1) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (0-3)
Sunday, 1pm, CBS, O/U 42.5
            This line is three points too high, but I can’t in good faith place any betting faith in Blaine Gabbert.

Colts (-9.5) over JAGUARS

Seattle Seahawks (3-0) @ Houston Texans (2-1)
Sunday, 1pm, FOX, O/U 42
            Tough one to call for me, but AT THE END OF THE DAY it feels like a game that Houston needs to win more.

TEXANS (+2) over Seahawks

Arizona Cardinals (1-2) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-3)
Sunday, 1pm, FOX, O/U 40
            Wouldn’t shock me at all if Arizona’s defense outscores Tampa Bay’s offense. Greg Schiano better be getting his resume ready.

Cardinals (+2.5) over BUCCANEERS

Chicago Bears (3-0) @ Detroit Lions (2-1)
Sunday, 1pm, FOX, O/U 48.5
            Explain to me how the Lions are favored in this game please? Last time I checked, the combined records of the teams they beat this season is 0-6.

Bears (+2.5) over LIONS

New York Giants (0-3) @ Kansas City Chiefs (3-0)
Sunday, 1pm, FOX, O/U 44
            For me, this was the toughest line to pick all week. It feels like the score will be lopsided, regardless of which team wins.

CHIEFS (-4.5) over Giants

New York Jets (2-1) @ Tennessee Titans (2-1)
Sunday, 4pm, CBS, O/U 40.5
            Could the Jets be the worst 2-1 team in NFL history? They are in the discussion.

TITANS (-4) over Jets

Dallas Cowboys (2-1) @ San Diego Chargers (1-2)
Sunday, 430pm, FOX, O/U 47
            This is normally a game the Cowboys would lose, but I’m starting to get a feeling about this year’s squad. If your desperate for help at wide receiver in fantasy, add Cowboys rookie Terrance Williams.

Cowboys (-2.5) over CHARGERS

Washington Redskins (0-3) @ Oakland Raiders (1-2)
Sunday, 430pm, FOX, O/U 44
            Through the first three weeks, Oakland has been a better team than Washington. If they lose, it will be by a field goal or less.

RAIDERS (+3.5) over Redskins

Philadelphia Eagles (1-2) @ Denver Broncos (3-0)
Sunday, 430pm, FOX, O/U 58.5
            Ethan made the point in his write up that I already had posted here, so scroll down and see what he wrote.

BRONCOS (-11.5) over Eagles

New England Patriots (3-0) @ Atlanta Falcons (1-2)
Sunday, 830pm, NBC, O/U 50.5
            Above all else, Atlanta’s desperation trumps anything New England brings to the table. I won’t be surprised if this one gets ugly.

FALCONS (-2.5) over Patriots

Miami Dolphins (3-0) @ New Orleans Saints (3-0)
Monday, 830pm, ESPN, O/U 48.5
            Miami is legit. This line is three or four points too high.

Dolphins (+7) over SAINTS

Ethan’s Picks

Steelers - Apparently Matt Cassel is starting this game. I attended a Matt Cassel MNF game with Cameron where he threw 3 TDs and was still getting booed at Gillette Stadium (EDITORS NOTE: I think it was five touchdowns, and he also managed to get sacked seven times). It was pretty awesome.

Ravens - The defense is starting to gel.

Bengals - I am always scared Andy Dalton is going to throw 4 INTS though.

Colts - Hopefully they aren’t riding too high after last week’s big win.

Seattle - If Houston scores more than 10 I will be surprised.

Cardinals - This is a coin flip. If this game is aired on Fox I am going to be pissed.

Bears - I am pretty surprised that Detroit is favored here. The scoreboard will be lit up like Jessie at his peak of meth addiction.

Chiefs - At some point the Giants will get it together, but not this week.

Titans - I see a horrible game from Geno Smith in the forecast.

Cowboys - I picked them to choke against St. Louis, so they will probably throw me under the bus this week.

Raiders - I really don’t like RGIII. Oakland has a pretty good pass rush so I hope to see him get smacked around this weekend.

Broncos - Peyton is going to throw for 600 yards and 5 TDs because the Eagles will three and out in less than a minute 7 times in this game.

Patriots - First tough game for the Pats, but it certainly is not the strongest defense they have faced.

Dolphins - Even though I picked the Pats, they will probably lose, Miami will pull out a big win and then we get to listen to people blow it way out of proportion that Miami is leading the division. In the end it will not matter. There is nothing that I would not bet that New England wins the division this year.

Week 2 NFL Picks

           My picks were mostly terrible last week (unless you ignored the spreads and played the money line), but at least we offered a second set of picks that went 10-5-1 last week.

San Diego Chargers (0-1) @ Philadelphia Eagles (1-0)
Sunday, 1pm, CBS, O/U 55.5
            San Diego was solid for three quarters against one of the AFC’s elite teams, so I’m not ready to sign off on Philly being favored by more than three points against them.

Chargers (+7) over EAGLES

Cleveland Browns (0-1) @ Baltimore Ravens (0-1)
Sunday, 1pm, CBS, O/U 43.5
            This is a rough match-up for Cleveland, who catch Baltimore the week after they got humiliated in prime time, and the same day that Ravens are raising their Super Bowl banner.

RAVENS (-7) over Browns

Tennessee Titans (1-0) @ Houston Texans (1-0)
Sunday, 1pm, CBS, O/U 43
            One of the few things I had right last week was Tennessee’s improved offensive line making a difference. They didn’t run wild against the Steelers, but did just enough to maintain field position and keep Jake Locker upright. If the defense shows up for a second straight week, the Titans could establish themselves as a dark horse playoff contender.

Titans (+9.5) over TEXANS

Miami Dolphins (1-0) @ Indianapolis Colts (1-0)
Sunday, 1pm, CBS, O/U 43.5
            Lost in the shuffle of week 1 were the Colts nearly suffering a horrendous home loss against Oakland, who most experts regarded as the NFL’s worst team heading into the season.

Dolphins (+3) over COLTS

Carolina Panthers (0-1) @ Buffalo Bills (0-1)
Sunday, 1pm, FOX, O/U 43.5
            We’ll combine Carolina attempting to bounce back from a tough home loss with Buffalo dealing with the disappointment of a blown lead against New England as reason to believe the Panthers will cover. To be honest, I considered flipping a coin for this one.

Panthers (-3) over BILLS

St. Louis Rams (1-0) @ Atlanta Falcons (0-1)
Sunday, 1pm, FOX, O/U 47.5
            Even with a hobbled Roddy White (thanks for announcing that he had a high ankle sprain before I drafted him on one of fantasy teams, assholes), Atlanta is too good to fall to 0-2.

FALCONS (-6.5) over Rams

Washington Redskins (0-1) @ Green Bay Packers (0-1)
Sunday, 1pm, FOX, O/U 50.5
            Ditto for this game. Aaron Rodgers is going to eat the Redskins secondary for lunch.

PACKERS (-7.5) over Redskins

Dallas Cowboys (1-0) @ Kansas City Chiefs (1-0)
Sunday, 1pm, FOX, O/U 46.5
            Andy Reid historically was usually the winner whenever his Eagles faced the Cowboys (granted most of those Cowboys teams stunk in the early ‘00s, but whatever), and we’re forecasting the same thing here. This game could be Kansas City’s coming out party.

CHIEFS (-3) over Cowboys

Minnesota Vikings (0-1) @ Chicago Bears

Sunday, 1pm, FOX, O/U 42
            Blaine Gabbert was the clear winner of “most inept week 1 quarterback”, but coming in a distant second place was Christian Ponder. I think Chicago does whatever they want too in this one.

BEARS (-6.5) over Vikings

New Orleans Saints (1-0) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-1)
Sunday, 4pm, FOX, O/U 48
            I don’t get this line. I really don’t. Go ahead and mortgage your house on the Saints.

Saints (-4) over BUCCANEERS

Detroit Lions (1-0) @ Arizona Cardinals (0-1)
Sunday, 4pm, FOX, O/U 48.5
            Detroit looked really good in Week 1, but that could just be because the Vikings suck. Not willing to invest on the road yet until I see them do it.

CARDINALS (+2.5) over Lions

Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1) @ Oakland Raiders (0-1)
Sunday, 430pm, CBS, O/U 40
            It’s a shame we couldn’t of scheduled this game for Week 16 so both teams could try to out tank each other on the same field to get the #1 overall pick. It feels ridiculous to take the Raiders when they are favored by anything more than three points (or for that matter, taking the Raiders when they are favored period), but betting on the Jaguars on the road was even scarier until Chad Henne was announced as the Week 2 starter. I don’t know what the over/under for turnovers is, but you’d be wise to bet the over.

Jaguars (+6) over RAIDERS

Denver Broncos (1-0) @ New York Giants (0-1)
Sunday, 430pm, CBS, O/U 56
            On the surface this looks like the classic “we underestimated the Giants but then they won by two touchdowns” kind of game, but this is as flawed a Giants roster as we’ve seen since 2006.

Broncos (-4) over GIANTS

San Francisco 49ers (1-0) @ Seattle Seahawks (1-0)
Sunday, 830pm, NBC, O/U 45
            I think the 49ers are the better team, but it’s irresponsible to bet against Seattle at home.

SEAHAWKS (-2.5) over 49ers

Pittsburgh Steelers (0-1) @ Cincinnati Bengals (0-1)
Monday, 830pm, ESPN, O/U 40.5
            If the Titans shut down Pittsburgh, what are they going to do against the Bengals? Cincinnati might only have to put up 14 points to cover this spread.

BENGALS (-7) over Steelers
