Classic NASCAR Crash of the Week - Martinsville

Martinsville may be the slowest track on the circuit, but that didn't prevent Martin Truex Jr. from attempting to knock the turn 3 wall down.

Is Rick Santorum an Artificial Life-Form Controlled By Obama?

The longer Rick Santorum drags out his hopeless bid to become President of the United States, the more I suspect that he is an android being controlled by Obama. Let’s think of the two things Santorum has accomplished these past few months.
-         He’s dragged the battle for the Republican nomination into the spring, which wasn’t a bad thing for Democrats in 2008 (it was clear that Obama or Hillary Clinton were going to be elected president against whoever the Republicans dragged out for slaughter), but in a year where Mitt Romney needs as much time as possible to focus his campaign solely on Obama, Santorum has undermined him.
-         He’s destroyed any faith ultra conservative voters might have in Romney by appealing to them more, which in turn, persuades any folks on the fence to question him (remember, the ultra-conservative folks will vote red come November even if Romney dresses like Richard Simmons at the Republican Convention, but it’s the undecided voters that will question a guy who couldn’t trounce a lunatic in the Republican primary come November).
Bullet point  #2 is the most important. It is almost like Santorum is a talking doll programmed to say certain things on command. Perhaps when Obama is on his treadmill in the morning, he hits a button that leads to Santorum rattle on about how much he hates gay marriage for the 6,482,192nd time. When he’s eating lunch, Obama hits the “blast contraceptives” button. During dessert six days ago, Obama hit a button that somehow made this come out of Santorum’s mouth.
“You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who’s going to be just a little different from the person in there. If you’re going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what maybe be the Etch-A-Sketch candidate of the future.”
To summarize that statement, Tricky Rick essentially said Americans could be better off sticking with Obama than rolling with Romney. Santorum probably won’t be heard from ever again after the Republican primary finally ends (he’s burned a few bridges, and more importantly, he’s fucking crazy), but assuming Obama is re-elected to a second term, he should be honored as the MVP of Obama’s campaign.

NFL Off-Season Notes

Folks Associated With the Saints Bounty Hunting Scandal Deserved Every Bit of Punishment From Roger Goodell

It’s one thing for players to have private bounties amongst themselves, but it’s taken to a whole other level when the defensive coordinator is doling out the payments. Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis might be among the top 5 performers at their jobs in the league, but shame on them for letting Gregg Williams get away with bounties on their watch.

With Peyton Manning in the Fold (and healthy), Denver is the Clear Favorite in the AFC West

The Broncos won the division with a dude that couldn’t even throw a five-yard out. San Diego lost Vincent Jackson, and it’s defense is a shadow of it’s former self. Kansas City has some interesting parts, but not enough reliability other than Dwayne Bowe. Finally, the Raiders are the Raiders. Put this team down for at least 10 wins, with the possibility of 12.

Tebowmania Will Destroy Mark Sanchez

How many incompletions will it take in a home game against the Bills for the Jets fans to start chanting “TEBOW! TEBOW! TEBOW!”? Five? Three? In a vacuum I understand the logic of wanting to bring Tebow to New York (offensive coordinator Tony Sparano is the godfather of the Wildcat offense), but can’t believe that the Jets didn’t consider the potential effects of bringing in Tebow on a guy that they just extended for three more seasons.

Matt Forte Can Bitch About His Contract Situation All He Wants…the Bears are in the Right
Minnesota paid Adrian Peterson $100 million over seven years last September. He shredded his knee into 6,000 pieces last December. Runningback is the most disposable position in the NFL. They are a dime a dozen. Chicago would be foolish to offer Forte big money, especially after inking Michael Bush to a very economical four-year deal.

I’m All in on Bill Parcells Running New Orleans For One Season
The Big Tuna has never liked to stay in one place too long anyway. What a better situation for him than to roam the Saints sidelines and insult reporters for just one season?

Who is Leading the Off-Season Super Bowl so Far?

Many folks wrote off their additions as reckless spending, but if you look deeper, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have clearly improved their situation more than anyone else. This is a squad that is just two seasons removed from a 10-6 campaign, and Scouts Inc. still rates their under 25 year old talent as the best in the league. Carl Nicks will stabilize the offensive line, and Vincent Jackson will open up the field for the entire offense. Throw in all of the problems in New Orleans, the Falcons staying above average, and the Panthers still in need of a defensive overhaul, and the NFC South looks open for Tampa Bay to take.

I Can’t Wait For the Dallas Cowboys to Start 0-1

Dallas has drawn the dreaded assignment of being the road team in the season’s opening game at New York. For those that don’t pay attention, the NFL’s opening night is essentially a homecoming game for the defending Super Bowl champion. Here are the results of these homecoming games, with the defending Super Bowl champion listed in caps.

2004: Patriots 27, Colts 24
2005: Patriots 30, Raiders 20
2006: Steelers 28, Dolphins 17
2007: Colts 41, Saints 10
2008: Giants 16, Redskins 7
2009: Steelers 13, Titans 10 (OT)
2010: Saints 14, Vikings 9
2011: Packers 42, Saints 34

Notice a trend? Throw in Dallas’ history of primetime gaffes on NBC, and this has all the makings for a complete train wreck. Can’t wait!

10 Awesome Things That Happened This Past Weekend (3/23-3/25)

Programming Note: I spent about 15 hours drafting fantasy baseball teams last night, then worked all day, and then played basketball (Camsanity struck again), so we're experimenting with a new format this week that involves me being extra lazy (something I'm a veteran at). Here we go.

10. Just incase you forgot, Pat Robertson is still a dumbass.

6. Knicks crush Pistons, No Credentials advances in Sportsbook’s $20,000 survivor pool (I’m not even going to link to that, because only myself and 426 other gambling degenerates gave a damn about this game).

1. Tiger Tiger Woods Y’all!

No Credentials Classic NASCAR Crash of the Week: California

Not a lot to work with (ever watched a race at California? Yawn), but here's the crash that allegedly ruined the 2002 season for Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Junior suffered a concussion, and told reporters after the season that he wasn't right physically for several months after the crash.

2012 No Credentials Fantasy Baseball Mock Draft Review

I didn’t have as much time to post a round-by-round analysis of the No Credentials Fantasy Baseball Mock Draft this year, but here’s a complete listing of all 12 teams created. The number in parenthesis after each players name is the round and overall pick that player was in the draft.

I typically don’t support triple dipping the same real life team for your fantasy squad, but the Yankees are a team that is an exception to that rule. For those of you planning to punt saves, Chris Sale is a player you should plan on targeting.

As noted in the fourth round review, Ryan Braun was taken at that spot before his suspension was reversed. Don’t ignore Derek Jeter if you miss out on the top tier of shortstops. His vice like grip on a top-2 spot in the Yankees batting order makes him a reliable source of runs (an often overlooked stats).

Rickie Weeks won’t lose any fantasy leagues, but his current ADP gives him the opportunity to win a few if he’s healthy. If you choose to hold off on starting pitching for the first few rounds, Jon Lester is a solid fifth round option to anchor your staff. Of all the Red Sox starters associated with “Chicken and Beer-Gate”, he seems to be the one most motivated by it.

It seems ridiculous that Ichiro would be a tenth round pick, but his declining batting average and shoddy team around him makes him a poor man’s Michael Bourn. Joakim Soria is more than likely going to have his second career Tommy John surgery, so take him off of your draft board entirely.

If you’re league allows multiple DL spots, consider scooping up Allen Craig late. He’ll be out until late May or early June, but should be productive when he returns. His sorry team won’t allow him to help much in the wins department, but if healthy, Johan Santana has shown flashes this spring that he can be the dominant pitcher he once was. I wish I had a reason why this team picked Arencibia before Wilson Ramos. I’ll blame it on watching too much kids television shows. Shaun Marcum delivered top 100 value last season, but can be head anywhere between the tenth and twelfth rounds.

The following lists are basically an overview of every player that No Credentials should be drafted as a starter in a standard 12-team redraft league. If there is a position listed in parenthesis, that is a second spot that a player is already eligible for or will be eligible for early in the season (two prime examples: Miguel Cabrera and Hanley Ramirez at 3B).
